Position: Settlement Analyst Internm - Fall Recruitment MD/DC/VA (Remote)

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Settlement Analyst Intern sits in the Financial Accounting Department of Finance and is responsible for invoicing and accounts receivable activities for groups with special funding arrangements comprising of Administrative Services Only (ASO) accounts.

This is a year‑round internship. The ideal candidate is someone who can commit to work throughout the year (Spring/Fall - minimum 15‑20 hours per week and 30‑40 hours per week in the Summer). The anticipated start date for our Fall cohort will be in October 2026.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Help prepare (weekly/monthly/annual) claim settlements associated with special funding arrangements for assigned accounts, including submission of required reporting.
  • Provide assistance to technical support staff and management in the resolution of issues that may impact timely client invoice/payment notification and/or client submission of funds to fulfill funding arrangements.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Form 5500, Schedule C, and ensure timely account distribution.
  • Provide support to the month‑end accounting close through the accurate and timely analysis of settlement activity.
  • Accurately apply cash receipts to the appropriate client invoices and analyze the respective balances.
  • Complete journal entries to the general ledger for financial reporting.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers, including explaining all invoice items and answering questions about account balances.
  • Participate in special projects aimed at process improvements and/or enhancement of existing business practices including those internal to the Settlements department, and those that may impact other departments (e.g. Finance, Underwriting).
Qualifications

This position requires an individual working toward a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. We are looking for Junior or Senior students seeking degrees in Accounting or Finance with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

  • Experience in Accounting, billing and/or bookkeeping.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi‑task and reprioritize work, as necessary.
  • Must have strong skills with Microsoft Excel (Intermediate/Advanced Level).
Salary Range

$19,760 – $26,000 (annual rate). All intern positions will be paid hourly.
