Position Summary: The University of New Mexico, Office of the University Controller, also known as Financial Services, located on Main Campus is responsible for all central accounting functions for the University. It is the responsibility of the Controller’s Office to ensure compliance with all financial policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the University or imposed by external agencies, including state and federal audit requirements, following generally accepted accounting practices.
The Controller’s Office oversees the maintenance of the official financial records of the University.
Join our team and make an impact! Within Financial Services is the Cashier/Bursar’s Office which supports UNM’s student population. The office serves the entire University, ensuring customer service and handling student accounting, tuition and fee assessment, billing, refunds, 1098‑T reports, tuition remission, deposits, loan‑fund reconciliation, and collection of outstanding debt.
What We’re SeekingThe Fiscal Services Tech will act in a hybrid capacity, transitioning between the Cashier’s Department and the Bursar’s Office. Responsibilities include processing high‑volume cash transactions, providing service support to customers, resolving service requests, conducting clerical and routine accounting tasks (posting entries, verifying and reconciling, processing payments, managing courier pickups, vault balancing, preparing billings and financial reports), addressing inquiries, coordinating with other departments and vendors, and assisting with account reviews and analyses.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Experience performing repetitive tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
- Experience with cash handling.
- Experience processing cash, checks, or credit‑card transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Experience working with a Point‑of‑Sale (POS) system.
- Experience performing account / drawer reconciliations.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting financial data on individual or business accounts.
- Experience working with a team as a member or leader.
- Experience with in‑person, online, or call‑center customer service, verbally and in writing.
- Experience communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational and follow‑up skills.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas must comply with the University’s influenza vaccination requirement.
- All regular, non‑temporary positions in this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US‑UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.

SalaryHourly: $19.00–$24.77 depending on experience. Salary range is estimated; actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
