Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for an education-focused organization based in Boston, Massachusetts. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who brings a well-rounded background in accounting, accounts payable, and procurement, and who is comfortable managing high-volume expense reimbursement activity in a remote work environment. The role offers the chance to contribute across core financial processes while partnering with internal stakeholders to help maintain accurate and timely records.

Responsibilities:

- Manage daily accounting activities, including preparing and posting journal entries and maintaining accurate financial records.

- Review and process employee expense reimbursements with a strong focus on policy compliance, accuracy, and timely turnaround.

- Support accounts payable functions by verifying invoices, coordinating approvals, and helping ensure prompt payment processing.

- Assist with procurement-related financial tasks by tracking purchasing activity and aligning documentation with accounting requirements.

- Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to support reliable month-end and ongoing reporting.

- Contribute to tax-related accounting work, including support for corporate tax, sales tax, and related filings or documentation.

- Collaborate with finance leadership and internal teams to address accounting questions and improve day-to-day workflow efficiency.

- Utilize financial systems effectively and learn Workday processes as needed to support accounting operations. Requirements - At least 3 years of experience in accounting or a closely related finance role.

- Hands-on background that includes a mix of general accounting, accounts payable, and procurement support.

- Demonstrated experience processing expense reports or reimbursement transactions in a high-volume setting.

- Solid understanding of journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations.

- Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, or tax-related accounting responsibilities.

- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while managing deadlines and priorities effectively.

- Experience with Workday is helpful, though training can be provided.

- Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills when working across teams.
