Position Overview:
Our client, an established and industry leading wholesale distributor has asked for our support in recruiting a Controller for their Tampa office. The corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing our client’s financial operations and plays a crucial role in improving and safeguarding the company’s financial & accounting practices. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller manages and develops an accounting staff of eight.
Essential Job Functions:
- Oversee all aspects of accounting processes to ensure accurate accounting records and timely consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage the general ledger, overseeing maintenance and reconciliation of the chart of accounts and the timeliness & accuracy of accounting postings and journal entries.
- Oversee the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, ensuring timely processing of receipts and vendor payments.
- Assist in the cash management of bank accounts.
- Review monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
- Develop and monitor internal financial controls and procedures.
- Manage the accounting staff, including hiring, training, development, and retention.
- Provide leadership, oversight, and support for the accounting team, creating an environment of trust and productivity.
- Lead the monthly and year-end closing process including evaluation and improvement of the close process. Automate processes wherever possible.
- Maximize usage of current ERP system to realize efficiencies and eliminate duplication of work.
- Lead the migration of the accounting function from home office in the Northeast down to Tampa office.
- Review and reconcile foreign intercompany monthly sales, receivables, and inventory.
- Ensure all transactions are properly documented and discrepancies are addressed.
- Stay informed of all industry trends and changes in accounting regulations and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant standards.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and variances.
- Coordinate the annual audit with external auditors and provide information needed to complete the audit.
- Supervise the payroll process to ensure accurate and timely payments to employees.
- Ad hoc projects as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA preferred.
- Experience in a distribution or manufacturing industry environment.
- 7–10 years of experience in the accounting field with increasing levels of responsibility.
- 3–5 years of supervisory experience successfully managing an accounting team.
- Experience with ERP software (Epicor P-21 preferred; Net Suite, MS Dynamics or related ERP strongly desired), Microsoft Office, and ADP Workforce Now.
- Experience preparing consolidated financial statements preferred.
- Experience with Mexican and Canadian financial consolidations preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Able to work well with senior executives and proficient in team-building and mentoring team members.
