Position: Accounting Assistant (San Diego only)

Whova is seeking an Accounting Assistant (entry-level) to join our highly collaborative and fast-growing software company in San Diego, CA.

In this role, you will help maintain accurate financial records, support month-end close processes, prepare reconciliations, process invoicing and billing, expense management, revenue recognition and financial reporting, and contribute to various accounting and compliance initiatives. You are required to work in San Diego office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support the maintenance of accurate financial records and bookkeeping activities in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Process accounts receivable activities, including invoicing, billing, collections, cash application, and customer account reconciliations.
  • Assist with accounts payable functions, including invoice review, expense management, and vendor payment processing.
  • Prepare reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Support deferred revenue tracking and revenue recognition processes to ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports, management reports, and ad hoc analyses.
  • Help calculate sales commissions and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Monitor operating expenses and assist with budget tracking and variance analysis.
  • Respond to inquiries from customers, vendors, the sales team, and internal departments regarding invoices, contracts, payments, and other finance-related matters.
  • Assist with audit, tax, and compliance-related projects by preparing supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects that contribute to smooth and efficient business operations.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Professional Accountancy, Taxation, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant internships or work experience are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and GAAP concepts.
  • Familiarity with journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and revenue recognition concepts.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Base salary:
    Junior accountant for $46K-$55K, depending on experience with accounting, tax, financial analysis, reconciliations, etc, in software company.
