Job Description
This Accountant role focuses on providing full-cycle accounting support for a portfolio of Class A office properties in the DC Metro region. You will prepare and review financial statements, ensure the accuracy and completeness of general ledger activity, and support both internal teams and ownership with timely, high-quality financial information. The position operates in a hybrid work model, combining onsite collaboration with remote work, and requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
Responsibilities
+ Provide full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of Class A office properties in the DC Metro region, ensuring all financial activities are accurately recorded and reported.
+ Create and post month-end accounting journal entries, collaborating with property staff, lease administration, and other internal teams to ensure property financials are accurate and complete.
+ Review all general ledger activity for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification, and correct discrepancies as needed.
+ Prepare monthly financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets, along with detailed balance sheet reconciliations and SOX work papers.
+ Draft clear and insightful variance report comments that explain each property's performance against budget and prior periods.
+ Calculate tenant recovery billings for common area maintenance (CAM) and property taxes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with lease terms.
+ Review new leases at each property to ensure accurate revenue recognition and correct set-up of recovery structures.
+ Provide support to audit and tax compliance teams by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to inquiries.
+ Respond to and support ad hoc ownership requests by providing timely financial analysis, reports, and explanations.
+ Support the property management team by explaining financial results and complex accounting concepts to individuals without a financial experience
+ Lead by example and model professional behaviors that align with the organization's values and standards.
+ Work within established client procedures and accounting policies to achieve accurate, compliant, and efficient financial reporting.
Essential Skills
+ 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience, including general ledger accounting and reconciliations.
+ Demonstrated experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes.
+ Proficiency in preparing journal entries, reviewing general ledger activity, and performing balance sheet reconciliations.
+ Ability to prepare monthly financial statements and supporting SOX work papers.
+ Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
+ Ability to calculate complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines simultaneously.
+ Ability to clearly explain complex financial information to stakeholders without a financial experience
+
Experience with Yardi or similar property management/accounting software (Yardi preferred).
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree preferred, with 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience; a combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
+ Experience in real estate or property accounting, particularly with Class A office properties, is advantageous.
+ Prior experience preparing variance analyses and commentary against budget and prior periods.
+ Experience supporting audit and tax compliance processes through preparation of schedules and documentation.
+ Inquisitive mindset with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
+ Ability to work effectively within established procedures while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
Work Environment
This role follows a hybrid work model, with standard hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will work onsite 2-3 days per week and remotely on the remaining days, collaborating closely with property staff, lease administration, and other internal teams. The assignment is expected to last approximately three months. The work environment is professional and office-based, utilizing tools such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Yardi property management/accounting software.
You will operate within established client procedures and controls while contributing to a collaborative, detail-oriented, and results-driven finance and accounting team.

This is a Contract position based out of Tysons, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $75.00/hr.
