THE POSITION
The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a Fiscal Assistant who is excited to support the vital financial operations that keep Torrance State Hospital running smoothly. In this position, you use your bookkeeping skills to maintain accurate, timely client accounts that directly support daily care and essential services. You will be part of a dependable team where careful work, clear processes, and precision truly matter.

This position supports the guardianship program by managing client accounts and performing detailed bookkeeping tasks that ensure accuracy and compliance. As a Fiscal Assistant, you will perform the following duties:
- Account Management:
Create and update client accounts, track financial activity, and ensure all records follow established accounting procedures - Check Processing:
Prepare and issue checks for client requests, vendor payments, benefit adjustments, and related financial needs - Record Reconciliation:
Review receipts, deposits, billing statements, and ledgers to verify accuracy and resolve discrepancies - Financial Posting:
Post approved disbursements to client and control ledgers and confirm correct coding and documentation - Report Preparation:
Compile financial information and prepare required monthly and annual reports for internal and legal review - Client Support:
Assist with tax filings, benefit updates, property inventories, and other financial needs connected to client care
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework:
You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to one day per week after completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Torrance.

- Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
- An associate degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits in accounting; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
