About this position

.
Hotel Equities, one of the top hotel development and management companies in the industry, is currently searching for a Corporate Director of Accounting to join us!

The Director of Accounting is a senior corporate leadership role responsible for the financial governance, performance, and integrity of Hotel Equities’ entire managed hotel portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President of Accounting, the Director leads all Regional Controllers and is accountable for the consolidated financial reporting, internal controls framework, budget oversight, and accounting standards that govern operations across every region and property.

Unlike the Regional Controller, who manages financial operations within an assigned portfolio, the Director of Accounting operates at the enterprise level — setting standards, resolving escalations, driving consistency, and serving as the authoritative accounting resource for the company. This role is a critical bridge between field accounting operations and executive financial leadership, and success is measured by the financial accuracy and compliance health of the entire portfolio, the performance and development of the Regional Controller team, and the quality of financial insight delivered to senior leadership and ownership groups.

Key Responsibilities:

Corporate Financial Oversight & Consolidated Reporting
  • Assume full accountability for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of consolidated financial reporting across all Hotel Equities managed and owned properties.
  • Review and approve consolidated monthly financial packages, including financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analyses submitted by Regional Controllers.
  • Monitor portfolio-wide financial performance trends, identifying systemic issues, risks, and opportunities and communicating findings to the VP of Accounting.
  • Serve as the corporate authority on GAAP, USALI standards, and all applicable accounting regulations; ensure consistent application across all regions.
Regional Controller Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop all Regional Controllers, establishing clear performance expectations, conducting regular one-on-ones, and delivering formal performance reviews.
  • Hold Regional Controllers accountable to portfolio financial performance, close deadlines, internal control standards, and team development outcomes.
  • Identify skill gaps and performance issues across the Regional Controller team and implement targeted development or corrective action plans.
  • Drive cross-regional best practice sharing, ensuring that process improvements and compliance learnings are applied consistently portfolio-wide.
  • Partner with the VP of Accounting and Human Resources on Regional Controller hiring, onboarding, succession planning, and retention.
Internal Controls Framework & Compliance
  • Collaborate on continuous improvement of Hotel Equities’ enterprise-wide internal controls framework across all properties and regions.
  • Conduct regular audits of Regional Controller operations and property-level accounting activity to verify compliance with corporate policies, franchise requirements, and management agreement obligations.
  • Identify internal control deficiencies, escalating systemic issues to the VP of Accounting with recommended corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and oversee external audit engagements across the portfolio, serving as the primary corporate contact for external auditors and ensuring timely, complete responses to all audit requests.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax obligations across all markets; oversee accurate and timely filing of all property-level tax returns.
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in accounting standards, USALI updates, brand standards, and regulatory requirements, communicating implications to Regional Controllers and property teams.
Budgeting, Forecasting, & Financial Performance Oversight
  • Partner with Operations leadership during the annual budget cycle to provide accounting support, ensuring property budgets are accurately loaded into financial systems, properly mapped to the chart of accounts, and formatted in accordance with company and USALI standards.
  • Prepare and monitor all below the line budgeting items prepared and entered by Regionals and their teams
  • Review budgets loaded by the regional team for accuracy, completeness, and internal consistency, flagging material errors, omissions, or misclassifications
  • Help Regionals monitor actual financial performance against approved budgets across all properties and regions on a monthly basis.
  • Partner with the Operations team to progressively expand the accounting teams role in the budget and forecasting process, building toward a model where accounting provides a stronger analytical oversight function.
Ownership Relations & Operations Partnership
  • Serve as a senior accounting point of contact for ownership groups, asset managers, and General Managers, responding to financial inquiries with…
