Government Tax Advisors, LLC (Gov Tax) is seeking a curious, dependable, and detail-oriented Audit Analyst to perform business personal property audits and associated site inspections in Washoe County, Nevada. This is a home-based field position, not a work-from-anywhere position. Applicants must currently live in Reno, Sparks, or a nearby community within reasonable commuting distance of central Reno. Fieldwork will typically occur one to three days per week and may take place anywhere in Washoe County, including outlying communities.
Prior property tax experience is not required. Gov Tax will provide comprehensive training on accounting-record analysis, audit procedures, site inspections, taxpayer communication, workpaper preparation, Nevada property tax laws, and appraisal requirements. You will work independently while receiving guidance, oversight, and quality review from experienced auditors. As you complete training and demonstrate proficiency, you will take greater ownership of your audits and may have opportunities to learn the property tax laws and audit procedures of other states.
Gov Tax helps local governments promote fairness and accurate reporting in self-reported tax programs. We provide professional audit services focused on business personal property and local excise taxes. We care about doing excellent work and about the people doing it. We hold ourselves accountable, treat taxpayers and clients with respect, and support one another as a team. Our employees are trusted to work independently, encouraged to keep learning, and given opportunities to grow as the company grows.
No two days will look exactly the same. On a home-office day, you might use Excel to compare a business’s property declaration with its fixed-asset schedule, review acquisitions and disposals, research an applicable tax rule, and investigate why two sources of information do not agree. On a fieldwork day, you will visit a business somewhere in Washoe County, meet with an owner or company representative, and conduct a site inspection.
You may tour the facility, learn how the business operates, and compare the equipment and other assets you observe with the company’s accounting records.
An audit can feel like solving a puzzle. Accounting records, property declarations, site observations, supporting documents, and tax laws must all fit together. If you enjoy resolving unanswered questions and seeing a complex assignment through to completion, you may find this work especially rewarding.
