Carbo Accounting Specialist

CNSM is seeking a CARBO Accounting Specialist to help support the financial backbone of our academic programs. In this role, you'll produce accurate reports, reconcile accounts, and assist faculty and staff with fiscal questions tied to both teaching and research activities. If you're detail-driven and enjoy meaningful work in a student-centered environment, this is a great opportunity to grow your skills.

If you love working with numbers, solving problems, and keeping financial systems running smoothly, the College of Natural Science & Mathematics (CNSM) at UAF has an exciting opportunity for you! As the CARBO Accounting Specialist, you will play a central role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting faculty research activities, and helping departments make informed fiscal decisions. You'll dive into data, run dynamic financial queries, prepare journal vouchers, track budgets, and deliver the information that keeps CNSM's operations strong and future focused.

This position also provides backup purchasing support and contributes to a variety of administrative functions—making it an excellent role for someone who enjoys variety, challenge, and meaningful work that supports scientific discovery.

To excel in this position, you should be energized by problem solving and confident working with detailed financial data. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and highly skilled with spreadsheets and automated accounting tools. You'll thrive if you enjoy investigating discrepancies, creating clear and accurate reports, and learning the inner workings of complex fiscal systems. Strong communication and customer service skills are key, as you'll regularly assist faculty, staff, and students who rely on your expertise.

The pace can be fast—especially around month-end and fiscal year-end—so the ability to stay focused, maintain accuracy, and handle competing deadlines will help you shine. If you're the type of person who loves untangling financial puzzles and contributing to a collaborative team environment, this job is for you.
