J.R. Helms & Associates, P.C. is a full-service accounting, tax, and business consulting firm based in Indianapolis. We're hiring a Staff Accountant / General Accountant who wants meaningful client work, professional growth, and a clear development path.
This role is ideal for someone with hands-on accounting and bookkeeping experience who is ready to take ownership of general ledger responsibilities while continuing to grow in a supportive, collaborative public accounting environment.
This role requires sound judgment, curiosity, and the ability to think through issues-not just follow a checklist.
What You'll Do- Prepare and post journal entries
- Reconcile and maintain general ledger accounts
- Support month-end and year-end close
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
- Research and resolve account discrepancies
- Assist with operational and financial audit fieldwork
- Perform data entry and financial analysis
- Support income tax preparation for individual, business, and non-profit clients (as assigned)
- Communicate clearly with clients and internal team members
- Experience with Quick Books and general ledger accounting
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to analyze issues and problem-solve independently
- Clear, professional communication skills
- Comfort working with multiple clients or entities
- Public accounting or small-business accounting experience preferred

Competitive salary range of $44,500-$81,000
