Property Accountant (Primarily Remote | Part-Time | 20-25 hrs/wk)
A privately held real estate investment and management company is seeking a Part-Time Property Accountant to join its small, collaborative Midtown team. This is a permanent opportunity offering a manageable schedule, meaningful ownership, and the ability to stay hands-on across both accounting and select property operations.
The role will oversee the day-to-day accounting for a diverse real estate portfolio that includes single-tenant net lease assets, vacant land, and a multi-tenant shopping center. With a lean team structure, the Property Accountant will have direct responsibility for the work and the autonomy to manage their responsibilities independently.
This opportunity could be particularly well suited for an experienced accounting professional looking for a steady, long-term part-time role with predictable hours and flexibility, including someone recently retired or a parent seeking a schedule that works well alongside family commitments.
The exact part-time schedule will be determined collaboratively with the selected candidate, with flexibility to structure the hours in a way that works well for both parties.
This role would only require one day per week in their Midtown office with the remaining days/hours to be completed remotely.
Responsibilities- Manage full-cycle accounting for the properties within the portfolio.
- Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, tenant billing, and related cash activity.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations, including accounting for tenant wire payments.
- Prepare monthly property-level financial reporting packages.
- Prepare and reconcile CAM charges for applicable properties.
- Coordinate with vendors, the company’s external CPA, insurance brokers, and other outside partners as needed.
- Prepare and distribute rent statements.
- Assist with occasional operational and property-management-related matters as they arise.
- Prior property accounting experience, ideally within commercial real estate.
- Strong understanding of property-level accounting and familiarity with NNN lease structures.
- Experience with CAM reconciliations and/or multi-tenant retail properties preferred.
- Ability to work independently, stay organized, and maintain accurate financial records.
- Comfortable working within a small, entrepreneurial environment and handling a mix of accounting and operational responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with vendors, tenants, and outside partners.
Compensation: $45-$60/hr (commensurate with experience)
