Real Estate Fund Controller | Private Equity Firm | Semi-Remote NYC
A successful real estate investment firm is seeking a Fund Controller to assume responsibility for all accounting aspects related to investment and fund management. This firm has a focus on commercial and residential properties, including office buildings, retail spaces, and luxury residential complexes. Ideal candidate will have a combination of fund accounting expertise and fund related property accounting understanding.
Responsibilities:Fund Accounting
- Oversee daily cash transactions, capital calls and distributions, and investor commitments.
- Prepare waterfalls for partnership allocations and ensure accurate promote calculations.
- Compile audited GAAP financial statements.
- Produce and maintain accurate monthly work papers, including documenting monthly journal entries for investments, covering interest income, fee amortization, loan draws, and distributions.
- Record journal entries for interest income, fee amortization, expense accruals, and cash transactions.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams in treasury and asset management on cash-related matters.
- Work with external audit consultants and tax professionals.
- Review fund formation and loan agreements.
- Analyze and compile financial data and metrics for quarterly investor reports.
Property Accounting
- Review 3rd party management work papers.
- Review development requisitions for classification and backup.
- Monitor third-party property manager cash transactions and bank reconciliations.
- Classify capitalized costs are appropriately coded to proper cost codes.
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or relevant discipline. Advanced degree and/or CPA a plus.
- 5+ years fund and property accounting experience.
- Exceptional teamwork skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with multiple departments.
- Comfort and proficiency in supervising and training staff, promoting a supportive and growth-oriented work environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and sophisticated accounting software.
Salary: $175,000 - $215,000 base salary + bonus, 401k match, comprehensive health benefits, PTO and many other valuable perks.
