Senior Accountant - NYC!
A growing, private equity-backed company at the intersection of consumer products and design is looking for a Senior Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to take on significant responsibility within a growing organization and gain exposure to both core accounting and broader financial analysis, as you'll work hand in hand with the CFO and VP Finance.
This person will play an important role in strengthening the company's accounting infrastructure as the business continues to grow. The position will be hands-on and involve month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting, while also providing exposure to process improvement, multi-entity accounting, and other strategic finance initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment. This role is particularly well suited for someone coming from a strong public accounting or corporate accounting background who is looking to take on broader ownership within an operating company.
The company is based in Midtown and only requires 1 day in office per week!
- Support the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and preparation of financial schedules
- Assist with accounting activities across multiple entities and support the consolidation and reporting process
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including invoice review, payment processing, cash application, and account reconciliation
- Prepare bank and balance sheet reconciliations and ensure transactions are accurately recorded and supported
- Assist with the preparation of internal financial reporting and schedules for management
- Support external audit processes by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to requests from external auditors
- Help improve accounting processes, controls, systems, and reporting as the organization continues to scale
- Assist with inventory-related accounting and other operational accounting activities as needed
- Support broader finance initiatives, including KPI reporting, pricing analysis, variance analysis, and other ad hoc projects
- 2-5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a public accounting or corporate accounting environment
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Experience working with multiple entities, consolidations, accounting systems, or process transitions is highly preferred
- Net Suite experience is strongly preferred
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with large amounts of financial data
- Experience in inventory, distribution, manufacturing, consumer products, or a similar operating environment is a plus
- Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Self-starter who is comfortable working in an evolving environment and taking ownership of responsibilities
- Interested in developing broader exposure to FP&A, business analysis, and operational finance
$85K - $95K + bonus
