Real Estate Controller (Hybrid)
A large, highly regarded global investment management organization is seeking an accomplished Real Estate Fund Controller to join its Dallas-based team. The company is one of the largest institutional real estate asset managers in North Texas. This is a senior-level position with broad responsibility for the financial oversight of institutional real estate investment vehicles. The Controller will work closely with portfolio management, investment professionals, fund operations, external administrators, property-level accounting teams, auditors and other business partners.
The position offers meaningful exposure across the real estate investment platform and the opportunity to improve the processes, controls and systems supporting a complex portfolio of investment products.
- Lead the accounting and financial reporting activities for a portfolio of real estate funds and related investment entities.
- Manage the periodic close and review process, including NAV calculations, investor allocations and fund-level financial statements.
- Provide oversight of outsourced fund administrators and other third-party service providers, ensuring that deliverables are accurate, timely and consistent with established service expectations.
- Coordinate annual financial statement audits and support the preparation of fund-level tax filings.
- Oversee treasury-related activities, including cash forecasting, liquidity planning and coordination of capital activity.
- Partner with valuation, portfolio management and investment teams to ensure that transactions and investment activity are reflected appropriately in the financial records.
- Serve as a senior accounting resource on complex real estate structures, transactions and reporting matters.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls across the fund-accounting and financial-reporting environment.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, reporting capabilities and operating efficiency.
- Participate in accounting-system implementations, data initiatives and other platform-wide projects.
- Build productive relationships with internal leadership, external auditors, administrators, property managers and other key stakeholders.
- Provide leadership and professional development to accounting team members.
- Active CPA license required.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in real estate fund accounting, fund finance, investment accounting or a closely related discipline.
- Significant experience supporting institutional real estate funds and complex investment structures.
- Strong command of U.S. GAAP and demonstrated ability to research and resolve sophisticated accounting and financial-reporting issues.
- Previous responsibility for reviewing the work of third-party fund administrators or outsourced accounting providers.
- Experience with fund financial statements, investor allocations, NAV reporting, audits, treasury activities and financial controls.
- Demonstrated success leading teams and coordinating work across multiple functional areas.
- Strong analytical judgment and the ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly.
- Proven ability to work effectively with senior executives, investment professionals, auditors and external service providers.
- Experience improving financial processes or implementing accounting and reporting systems is strongly preferred.
