Position:
Senior Cost Accountant
The Senior Cost Accountant will serve as the subject matter expert for inventory and cost accounting, partnering with operations, engineering, supply chain, and finance to ensure accurate product costing and financial reporting. This role will oversee standard costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing cost analysis, and cost-related month-end close activities while supporting operational decision-making through meaningful financial analysis. The Senior Cost Accountant will also help strengthen internal controls, improve accounting processes, and support audit and IPO readiness initiatives.
This hybrid position will be based at Zinc Five headquarters in Tualatin, Oregon, with 2–3 days per week in the office and the remaining time remote. This role reports to the VP & Global Corporate Controller.
Senior Cost Accountant
Job Duties:
- Own the standard costing process, including the development, maintenance, and periodic review of product standard costs
- Develop a new chart of accounts to track direct material costs, direct labor costs, indirect labor costs, and overhead costs for battery production and cabinet assembly
- Analyze manufacturing costs, inventory activity, and cost variances to identify trends, explain financial results, and recommend corrective actions
- Perform month-end and quarter-end close activities related to inventory and cost accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis
- Partner with operations, engineering, and supply chain to improve product costing, evaluate cost drivers, and support strategic business decisions
- Develop cost estimates and profitability analyses for new products, engineering changes, and other business initiatives
- Manage inventory accounting activities, including physical inventories, cycle counts, inventory reconciliations, and inventory reserve analyses ensuring accurate reporting
- Maintain accurate cost accounting records and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls over inventory and cost accounting processes in support of SOX and IPO readiness initiatives
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to audit requests, and assisting with control testing
- Identify opportunities to improve costing methodologies, reporting, and accounting processes through automation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain standard cost estimates for products and support pricing strategies.
- Fosters strong interdepartmental collaboration to enhance responsive customer service, timely issue resolution, streamline processes, and support shared business goals

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including significant manufacturing cost accounting responsibilities,
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, standard costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing finance
- Experience supporting SOX compliance, external audits, and public company or IPO readiness initiatives
- Experience implementing process improvements and internal controls within a manufacturing environment
- High attention to detail and strong analytical ability
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Ability to work under deadlines during month-end and quarter-end close cycles
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience analyzing manufacturing variances, inventory valuation, and product costing
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Net Suite, SAP, Oracle) and Excel
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business partnering skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred
- Big Four public accounting experience preferred

Physical Requirements and
Working Conditions:
- Work involves sitting, standing, and lifting up to 10 pounds
