LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE, DAVIDSON COUNTY This position is 80% Work from Home. Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to four years of experience in one or a combination of the following: (1) tax auditing; (2) clerical or technical accounting or auditing, or (3) tax preparation.

Substitution of Experience for

Education:

Qualifying experience in tax auditing, clerical or technical accounting or auditing, and/or tax preparation may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

Substitution of Education for

Experience:

Accounting, bookkeeping, business, or computer course work from an accredited college or technical institute may substitute for years of experience up to four years. Three semester hours in accounting, bookkeeping, business, or computer course work is equivalent to a one-year substitution; six semester hours in accounting, bookkeeping, business, or computer course work is equivalent to a two-year substitution; nine semester hours in accounting, bookkeeping, business, or computer course work is equivalent to a three-year substitution;

twelve semester hours in accounting, bookkeeping, business, or computer course work is equivalent to a four-year substitution.

OR

Experience equivalent to two years as an Accounting Technician with the State of Tennessee.

Necessary Special Qualifications

Applicants for this class may be required to possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and personal vehicle insurance.

Overview

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing paraprofessional tax auditing assistance work of moderate difficulty. An employee in this class provides assistance and information to tax auditors or agents in the examination of business records to ensure compliance with accounting and auditing principles and with state tax laws, rules and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Provides taxpayer assistance in person, by telephone, or through correspondence concerning basic tax information, tax assessments and payment options.
  • Assists tax auditors or agents in auditing, analyzing, or investigating the financial records of businesses and individuals.
  • Utilizes various resources and tools to research and compile taxpayer data and/ or history for tax audits or investigations. May archive audit information and receive and process tax payments.
  • Conducts research and may assist in the computation of certain tax assessments, confirm accuracy of audit work papers, reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records and statistical reports concerning completed audits and other tax audit information. May distribute information provided by management to appropriate personnel.
  • May count stock of cigarettes, alcohol, and other items at taxpayer's business location and perform related analysis at the close of a business.
  • May order office supplies and maintains equipment inventory.
