Position Overview:

We are seeking a proactive, business-minded Property Accountant to join our growing upstream oil & gas company. This is not a traditional heads-down, back-office accounting role. The ideal candidate will bring an operational mindset, an ability to connect the dots, and a deep understanding of how accounting activities impact the broader business. This position is intended as a stepping-stone into leadership.

Within 1–3 years, the selected candidate is expected to transition into a management role, ultimately taking over leadership of this accounting group.

Key Responsibilities:

This role is responsible for property accounting functions in alignment with internal policies, procedures, and applicable regulations, including but not limited to:

• Performing property accounting functions with a focus on upstream oil & gas operations
• Tracking and recording fuel transfers and usage on offshore vessels
• Maintaining and updating the Asset Retirement Obligations schedule, including liabilities from defaulted working interest partners or successors in interest
• Calculating and recording monthly depletion, depreciation, and amortization (“DD&A”) for oil and gas properties
• Conducting quarterly Ceiling Tests to assess potential impairments
• Preparing and maintaining multiple account reconciliations
• Executing and revising SOX controls as needed

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Minimum 3 years of property accounting experience, preferably in upstream oil & gas
• Strong working knowledge of operational and regulatory accounting practices
• Business-oriented mindset with the ability to assess the broader operational impact of accounting decisions
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Proactive communication and collaboration style; able to build strong relationships across teams
• Effective organization and prioritization skills in a dynamic environment
• High level of integrity and sound judgment, particularly in handling sensitive or ethical matters
• Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and manage time-sensitive deliverables
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with BOLO accounting system is preferred

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive motion tasks with hands and arms. Occasional standing and walking are also required.
