Foshee Residential is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support our affordable housing portfolio.
This position is ideal for an accounting professional with a strong background in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), HUD, and USDA programs who is ready to take on both technical accounting and team leadership responsibilities.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for financial reporting, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and the supervision, training, and development of 1–3 accounting team members.
What You'll Do- Accounting & Compliance
- Oversee and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for LIHTC, HUD, and USDA communities
- Ensure compliance with applicable LIHTC, HUD, USDA, and GAAP requirements
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and chart of accounts
- Support LIHTC, HUD, and USDA audits, including preparation of schedules and responses to auditors and regulatory agencies
- Monitor reserve accounts, restricted funds, and surplus cash calculations
- Assist with annual budget preparation and variance analysis
- Maintain accurate documentation for regulatory reporting and internal controls
- Help ensure reporting requirements and deadlines are consistently met
- Supervision & Staff Development
- Supervise and review the work of 1–3 Property Accountants
- Train accounting team members on affordable housing requirements and internal accounting procedures
- Provide ongoing coaching, technical guidance, and performance feedback
- Assist with onboarding and professional development
- Identify training opportunities and areas for process improvement
- Help strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls
- Serve as a technical accounting resource for property management and internal teams
- Collaborate with accounting and property management teams on compliance matters and reporting deadlines
- Support improvements to accounting processes, systems, and workflows
- Help maintain consistency and accuracy across the affordable housing portfolio
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, including substantial experience with LIHTC, HUD, and USDA programs
- Experience supervising, training, or mentoring accounting staff
- Strong understanding of affordable housing accounting and compliance requirements
- Experience reviewing financial statements and supporting audits
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with accounting software;
Yardi, MRI, Real Page, or similar platforms preferred - Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Public accounting experience
- Experience with HUD programs such as Project-Based Section 8, Section 202, Section 811, or HOME
- Experience with USDA affordable housing programs
- Experience working effectively in an online or remote work environment
- Proven ability to train staff on technical accounting and compliance matters
