IT Desk Analyst

Role overview

Staff or Senior Accountant supporting a cloud-based learning platform at scale, reporting to the Controller. The role owns core accounting operations - from reconciliations and journal entries through financial statement preparation, audit support, and continuous process improvement - within a remote-first organization serving roughly 11 million learners.

• Manage accounting functions including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing.
• Analyze company expenditures and confirm proper allocation of expenses across departments, reporting back as needed.
• Review transactions to ensure accounting treatment complies with GAAP and internal policies.
• Analyze billing transactions to confirm proper application of revenue recognition policies.
• Review general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries, including monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals.
• Assist in building financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, changes in financial position) and budget variance analysis.
• Assist in designing and preparing budgets for management review, and prepare year-end schedules for annual tax returns.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and procedures.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
• 3-5 years of accounting or auditing experience for the Staff level, or 5-8 years for the Senior level; public accounting experience preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience working in accounting systems such as Net Suite, Intacct, or Quick Books strongly preferred.
• Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or on a team.

• Fully remote position.
• Base salary range of $65,000-$85,000, set based on Chicago market data.
