JOB SUMMARY:

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 250 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

The Economic Security and Technology (EST) Department at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Communications and Operations Intern to support the team's day-to-day operations and outreach efforts.

This position offers hands-on experience in communications, event coordination, and project management within one of CSIS's most dynamic departments. The intern will assist in drafting and scheduling social media content, creating visual materials, and supporting internal and external events. They will also contribute to operational tasks that ensure the smooth functioning of the EST team, including administrative coordination, meeting preparation, and travel planning.

The ideal candidate is organized, creative, and proactive, with strong communication skills and an interest in public policy, strategic communications, and operational efficiency. This internship provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of communications and program management while learning about the broader mission and work of CSIS.

The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($18.00/hour for current undergraduate hires, $19.00/hour for hires with a bachelor's degree, and $20.00/hour for hires with a master's degree).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

* Support day-to-day operations of the EST team, including scheduling, databases, and internal tracking.

* Assist in drafting the EST newsletter and other communications.

* Draft and schedule social media content and design visual assets using tools like Canva.

* Help plan, coordinate, and run a variety of events, including webinars, briefings, and public events.

* Gather and organize meeting information, including attendee bios, titles, and other relevant materials, and assist with meeting coordination.

* Greet and escort meeting attendees and provide logistical support during events.

* Assist with production and editing of multimedia content, including podcasts, videos, and presentations.

* Conduct research, draft summaries, and proofread communications or publications.

* Collaborate with team members on projects and contribute ideas to improve communications and operations.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND

EXPERIENCE:

* Must hold a bachelor's degree; progress towards a master's degree, or a master's degree, is a plus.

* Demonstrated experience in communications, operations, or related administrative support roles (internship or coursework experience acceptable).

* Prior experience managing social media accounts (Linked In, X, or similar platforms) and drafting professional digital content is a plus.

* Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

* Proficiency in design tools such as Canva, Adobe Express, or similar platforms for creating infographics, banners, and other visual content.

* Video editing experience (e.g., Cap Cut, Adobe Premiere, or Opus Clip) is a plus.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.

* Proven ability to follow directions, take initiative, and contribute creative ideas to improve content and workflow.

* Ability to work collaboratively within a small, dynamic team and communicate effectively with colleagues across departments.

* Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and project management tools preferred.

* Must be able to work in-person at the CSIS office in Washington, D.C., with flexibility for occasional remote work if needed.
