In order to be considered for this position, the candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Principal Administrative Associate or must have taken, passed, and be reachable on the Open Competitive Principal Administrative Associate Exam#1128.

The Division of Traffic Operations is seeking to hire a Principal Administrative Associate L1 to assist the Deputy Directors of the Signals, Timing, and Intersection Control unit with administrative work. The candidate will be responsible for responding to hundreds of new All-Way and traffic signal study requests annually, contributing directly to Street Improvement Projects (SIP) and consultant projects across the five boroughs, and preparing mandated response letters with timely and accurate delivery, etc.

The successful candidate will also play a key role in coordinating with internal and external units, maintaining records, and supporting the daily operations of the office.

While maintaining strict confidentiality and under supervision, the successful candidate will perform the following duties, but not limited to:

  • Opening Intersection Control Unit (ICU) cases.
  • Drafting and preparing ICU response letters and resolving cases in the ARTS system promptly.
  • Drafting Signal Timing response letters to address safety concerns.
  • Updating case studies in the SWOTS system by deadline, reducing backlog.
  • Utilizing tools to scan and archive project records on the hard drive in the requested format.
  • Communicating and coordinating with both internal and external units.

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in "1" above; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in "1" above;
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3 years.
