Job SummaryThis position provides clerical and courtroom support for civil court functions within the Burlington Vicinage. The role supports court operations and serves the public as a client contact.
ResponsibilitiesClerical Functions
- Verify records and documents for accuracy, completeness, and conformity
- Review and docket complaints, motions, and other legal documents
- Review cases and annotate calendars to ensure efficient use of resources
- Participate as an active member of a supportive team
- Write case notes, maintain files, and schedule court events
- Review legal complaints and documents for completeness and accuracy
- Answer inquiries from the public, attorneys, and various stakeholders, and work closely with other divisions
- Explain Judiciary policies and procedures to the public, attorneys, and various stakeholders
Courtroom Support Functions
- Operate recording equipment (Court Smart)
- Create detailed log sheets
- Record and produce court orders using court systems to provide requested information during proceedings
- Mark exhibits, maintain evidence and evidence logs
- Swear in witnesses
Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
Remote WorkThe Judiciary offers a hybrid work schedule. This position may qualify for up to two days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings, provided the applicant has high‑speed home internet and installs a multifactor authentication app.
Minimum QualificationsOpen to employees of the Burlington Vicinage who have at least one year of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services, including keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts, and/or scheduling meetings or appointments. The applicant must be able to use a keyboard;
no minimum speed required.
If selected for a bilingual variant title, the applicant must be able to perform the above duties in both English and Spanish.
Physical AbilityApplicants must be able to perform work that requires climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, reaching, and lifting supplies weighing 30 to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
Eligibility for Advancement- Open to employees who have completed the Working Test Period in the following titles:
Judiciary Clerk 2, Judiciary Clerk 2 Bilingual, Judiciary Account Clerk 1, Judiciary Account Clerk 1 Bilingual. - Eligibility for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 3 is based on achieving all competencies listed in the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. No New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination is required for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 3.

Appointees must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license if vehicle operation is necessary for the essential duties of the position.
Authorization to WorkUS citizenship is not required. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
Background CheckNewly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that includes fingerprinting. All data will be kept in strict confidence, except where required to inform the individual of findings and any resulting action.
Residency LawNewly hired employees within one year must establish and maintain a principal residence in New Jersey. Exemptions may be requested based on hardship or employer critical need.
SalarySchedule A: $45,877.84 – $69,484.11
Schedule B: $45,877.84 – $62,203.88
For newly hired individuals, the starting salary is normally at the minimum of the range. Current employees promoted or advanced receive a 5% base salary increase, not exceeding the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.
