Position: SENIOR OFFICE ASSOCIATE - Range 10 / AMEA

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

Location: 825 L Street, Anchorage, AK 99501.

Department: Anchorage Health Department.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Responsibilities
  • Support Anchorage Health Department in administrative operations, including phone coverage, purchasing, website editing, and administrative support to the Director and all divisions within the department.
  • Provide clerical support for Commission activities and assist program managers with special events and projects.
  • Maintain and assist in developing flyers, brochures, newsletters and websites as needed to enhance community communication.
  • Prepare purchase orders, maintain procurement card, authorize invoices and order supplies as needed.
  • Maintain administration filing systems and office machines.
  • Answer the main phone line after the phone tree.
  • Coordinate and prepare for all staff meetings, including service award pins and overall agenda.
  • Manage janitorial duties and monitor day custodian and key inventory control.
  • Conduct research and prepare travel arrangements for the department.
  • Provide backup to coordinate building maintenance, repairs, and space management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in office clerical work. Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM.
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems or similar discipline and experience in office clerical work.
  • All applicants are required to obtain the following:
    • Satisfactory typing test of net speed of 35 WPM (current within the past 1 year).
    • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
Preferences
  • Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non‑AMEA applicants.
  • Veterans may receive interview preference if they attach proof of honorable discharge. Minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
  • Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves may receive interview preference if they attach proof of current service. Minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
  • People with volunteer experience with Ameri Corps, Peace Corps or other national service programs are encouraged to include this information in their application.
