Administrative Assistant II – Natural Resources and Environment

The Natural Resources and Environment Section is seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant to provide vital support to our attorneys and professional staff. Key Responsibilities

As an Administrative Assistant II, you will provide administrative and legal support services for attorneys and paralegals within the Natural Resources and Environment Section. You will perform general support activities, ensure urgent matters are promptly referred, and create and produce correspondence, legal documents, and reports through various Microsoft Office applications.

  • Proofread documents and court filings
  • Perform document management, archiving legal cases and projects
  • Calendar attorney and legal assistant activities
  • Determine information to be obtained from client agencies, and create, maintain, and close files
  • Obtain and distribute the information necessary to support the functioning of the office by communicating via fax, telephone, correspondence, or in person with courts, clients, the public, other governmental agencies, and other sections within the office
  • Appropriately communicate with the public, client agencies, attorneys, legislators, and reporters
  • Advise other work unit members in appropriate water court practices when necessary
  • Docket upcoming trials, deadlines for pleading, and conference calls for attorneys
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged information
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

This position will primarily be working in an office, with occasional remote work options.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience providing administrative/clerical support in a professional office setting as the main function of your job.

Or 30 semester hours (or equivalent) of university or college coursework from an accredited institution may be substituted for one of the two years of experience. Qualified applicants must have at least one year of administrative assistant/office clerical support experience. If qualifying under the substitution, you will be required to provide a copy of your transcripts.

Additional requirements:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Effective oral and written communication with internal and external customers
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing legal support
  • Willingness to learn new processes and develop new skills
  • Experience with the E‑filing process
  • Experience working in a natural resource setting
  • Experience using Share Point
  • Experience working with document management systems, case management systems, and document review systems
  • Experience with MS products
  • Experience using Pro Law
  • Strong technical acumen
Conditions of Employment
  • Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm
  • Flexible work arrangement is an option; this position requires work to be performed in office three days per week with one Friday per month
  • Colorado Department of Law participates in E‑Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I‑9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $39,852.00–$55,800.00. Salary will be set commensurate with your qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Salary will be paid on a biweekly basis.

1300 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203. This position will primarily be working in an office, with occasional remote work options.
