Overview

This position is responsible for accurately entering customer vital record information in order to produce certified copies of birth records. The incumbent uses the Birth Registry System (BRS) electronic integrated vital record system to build an electronic database of these records. Using the various computer systems, prepare data from indexes, card files, birth records and other documents for transfer into the BRS.

Processes follow‑up requests for records and answers inquiries to resolve problems related to requests for vital records.

Qualifications
  • Relevant experience and/or education referred to in the supplemental questions must be documented in the resume, transcript and/or application to allow for accurate screening.
  • Attach a resume identifying specific experience and dates of employment. Dates of employment must include month, year and hours per week.
  • Attach a cover letter.
  • Attach an official transcript if applicable (scanned copies only). Official transcripts must include the name of the institution, confirmation that a degree was awarded, date of award and the registrar’s signature.
Education

High‑school completion (or equivalent) is required.

Experience
  • General Office Assistant 5 – No specific type or amount of experience required.
  • General Office Assistant 6 – One year of administrative support experience.
  • General Office Assistant E7 – Two years of administrative support experience, including one year equivalent to the intermediate level.
  • Certain positions may require a criminal history background check.
Location and Remote Work

The physical location of this position is 333 South Grand Avenue in Lansing, MI. Remote work or hybrid schedules may be considered based on operational needs within established limits. Selected candidates who have been approved for remote or hybrid work must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Employees will be provided with computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
  • A high‑speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
Employment Terms

There are two vacancies being filled as limited‑term assignments that may become permanent; however, no guarantee of permanence exists.

A successful completion of a background investigation and criminal records check is required.
