Job Title
The Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren Vicinage (Vicinage 13) is seeking self-starters interested in performing a variety of clerical, administrative, and other support functions in connection with proceedings instituted before courts or programs administered under the supervision of the courts, in support of the business operations of such courts, and as contact representatives for clients and customers or users of the services provided by the New Jersey Courts.
Under the direction of the Court Executive 1 b (Assistant Criminal Division Manager) and other supervisory personnel, this individual will provide direct courtroom support through the recording of all court activities utilizing Court Smart to record the official record. The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings.
To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.
Specific duties to include, but not limited to: maintaining a detailed log of in-court activities, and completing calendars with results of each matter; reviewing all warrants ordered for proof of service before signed by the Judge; processing the warrant paperwork as per established division protocols; completing necessary paperwork on each inmate to ensure proper communication with the jail regarding the status of all inmates;
making and distributing copies of the completed court calendar to various parties; swearing in witnesses and guiding jurors through the jury selection and trial process; marking and maintaining evidence during trials; keeping a daily time sheet of the Judge's bench time for the Judge's secretary; completing data entry into Promis Gavel and eCourts for each case's outcome; obtaining files for all matters listed for court, which includes organizing them for the Judge;
providing future scheduling dates as needed on cases; providing excellent customer services to internal and external customers and responding to procedural and case status questions; acting as backup support for other clerical functions in the division, including calendar coordination, when not in the courtroom; and performing other duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
QualificationsExternal Applicants:
One year of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.
Ability to use a keyboard, no minimum speed.

Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 3 as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement to the Judiciary Clerk 3 title are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination.
Physical Ability:
For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching to perform the essential duties of the position. For some positions, the selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds, in order to perform essential duties of the position.
Driver's License:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
