Position: Judiciary Clerk 3 – Criminal (Recovery Court)

Salary

The salary range for this position is $47,483.56 to $71,916.05 for Schedule A, and $47,483.56 to $64,381.02 for Schedule

B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.

Remote Work

The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a detailed log of in-court activities, and complete calendars with results of each matter.
  • Review all warrants ordered for proof of service before signed by the Judge; process the warrant paperwork as per established division protocols.
  • Complete necessary paperwork on each inmate to ensure proper communication with the jail regarding the status of all inmates.
  • Make and distribute copies of the completed court calendar to various parties.
  • Swear in witnesses and guide jurors through the jury selection and trial process.
  • Mark and maintain evidence during trials.
  • Keep a daily time sheet of the Judge’s bench time for the Judge's secretary.
  • Complete data entry into Promis Gavel and eCourts for each case's outcome.
  • Obtain files for all matters listed for court, including organizing them for the Judge.
  • Provide future scheduling dates as needed on cases.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers and respond to procedural and case status questions.
  • Act as backup support for other clerical functions in the division, including calendar coordination, when not in the courtroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications

External Applicants: One year of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services, including keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts, and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.

Ability to use a keyboard, no minimum speed required.

Internal Applicants: Open to Judiciary employees who have an aggregate of one year of permanent service as of the announced closing date in the following career (classified) titles:

  • Advancement:
    Judiciary Clerk 2;
    Judiciary Clerk 2 Bilingual;
    Judiciary Account Clerk 1;
    Judiciary Account Clerk 1 Bilingual.
  • Lateral Reassignment:
    Judiciary Account Clerk 2;
    Judiciary Account Clerk 2 Bilingual;
    Judiciary Clerk 3;
    Judiciary Clerk 3 Bilingual.

Eligibility for Advancement: Applicants must have achieved all competencies for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 3 as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form. No promotional examination required.

Physical Ability:
Must be able to climb, stand, stretch, bend, reach, lift up to 75 pounds for essential duties.

Driver's License:
Required only if vehicle operation necessary.

Authorization to Work:
Must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security regulations.

Background Check:
Must agree to a thorough background check including fingerprinting.

Residency Law:
Must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey within one year of hire, unless exemption granted.
