The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking to hire a student assistant in a learning capacity, to work under the Shop Payments Section. In a learning capacity, the student assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to invoice payments in Accounts Payables.

This is a part‑time, temporary, non‑benefited, student position. Employment is at-will with University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI). A pre‑employment background check may be conducted and applicants must pass the checks to the satisfaction of UEI and the hiring agency. UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period.
UEI employs candidates who live and work in California; if selected, you must reside in California and all work must be performed within the state.
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable) at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. Students must be enrolled in at least six-semester units or nine-quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six-quarter units for graduate students.

Accounting or Finance.
Work ScheduleFlexible workdays and hours, Monday–Friday, between 8 AM–5 PM. The final schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work ScheduleStudent Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks (winter, spring, summer).
Compensation$18.27 – $24.62 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications- Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term.
- Knowledge of fundamental accounting principles and State Accounting processes.
- Basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Plan, organize, and establish work priorities to meet deadlines.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Use a variety of office equipment (scanner, copier, calculator).
- Work as a team member in an office setting.
- Under the amendment to Government Code Section 18220, state agencies shall give preference to a qualified applicant (up to 26 years of age) who is, or has been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth, a formerly incarcerated youth, or a victim of human trafficking.
- 50%:
Review, reconcile, and assemble a high volume of invoices processed by the accountants for the submittal of the claim schedule payments to the State Controller's Office. - 25%:
Assist with the audit, research, and entering payment transactions in CGI Advantage in accordance with department procedures, Government Codes, and the State Administrative Manual. - 20%:
Assist with incoming mail, including sorting, and prioritizing invoices per the Prompt Payment Act, for distribution to accountants for payment processing. - 5%:
Assist in performing miscellaneous clerical duties such as copying and filing claim schedules.
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision within normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
