Assistant Clerk – JD/GA
Location: Housing Session:
New Haven, Connecticut
Salary: $93,627 – $118,015 per year, plus Connecticut benefits.
Responsibilities- Review, evaluate, and process court documents including files, motions, orders, and judgments in civil, criminal, family, and housing cases.
- Monitor compliance with statutes, case law, and Rules of Court; schedule pre‑trial and trial calendars; notify parties of case status and court decisions.
- Act as case‑flow coordinator and oversee assignment lists for civil, criminal, or family matters.
- Prepare and distribute short calendars; arrange transportation for defendants or witnesses when required.
- Supervise administrative support staff, including assisting attorneys and pro‑se litigants with document filing and record entry.
- Maintain accurate court records and dispositions in case files; perform daily bookkeeping, reporting, and jury administration duties.
- Perform courtroom clerical duties as needed: swear in witnesses/jurors, maintain witness/exhibit lists, record measures of court, and prepare files for data entry.
- Lead, train, and conduct performance appraisals for lower‑level employees; act as supervisor during absences.
- Graduated from law school.
- Knowledge of civil, criminal, family, and housing law; familiarity with state and federal law and rules of court.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer systems and general administrative tools.
- Demonstrated supervisory ability; ability to coordinate case‑flow and staff operations.
- Three years of experience as a Deputy Clerk in the GA, Geographic Area, and Juvenile Matters may substitute for the general education requirement.
