The Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) at the University of Michigan College of Engineering is at the forefront of research in energy, healthcare, supply-chain logistics, and transportation. WhatYou'll Do
As the Executive Assistant for IOE, you would provide comprehensive administrative support to the IOE Chair and the Department Administrator, supporting their leadership roles and bringing your own leadership, interpersonal, and administrative skills to this central role within the department as you contribute to our collective success as an inclusive and respectful learning community. The Executive Assistant reports directly to the Department Administrator with functional reporting to the Department Chair.
In this role, you will:
- Administratively support the Department Chair, including schedules, travel, and communications
- Manage the faculty recruitment and hiring processes and some faculty HR processes, including casebooks, reviews, sabbaticals, retirements, etc.
- Assist with the preparation of confidential and sensitive reports and correspondence
- Provide administrative support to various department meetings and committees
- Serve as a liaison between the Dean's Office and the Department
- Collaborate with IOE colleagues to help support a variety of department activities and events
- Other duties as assigned by the Chair and Department Administrator to support the goals and objectives of the Department
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least five years of progressively administrative support, preferably in higher education
- Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, and confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills, superior organizational skills, a self-starter, and the ability to effectively work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and other constituents
- Knowledge of academic HR policies and procedures, especially those related to faculty
- Ability to manage a diverse workload and the flexibility to adapt as necessary
