Oncology Registry Manager
- Remote

The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa is seeking a Oncology Registry Manager that will be responsible for the daily management, re-accreditation, and operations of the Oncology Registry program for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and Mission Cancer+ Blood. Provide developmental and administrative expertise to the Oncology Registry team, including patient medical record abstracting and oversight of teams’ abstractions, follow‑up, reporting, quality control, and data updates.

This position is eligible for hybrid or remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Duties to include:

Operational and Financial Management

Provide information and counsel others on the policies and goals for the overall administration and direction of the HCCC and Mission Cancer+ Blood Oncology Registry.

Initiate, write and edit reports for publication and distribution for Oncology Registry, members of the UIHC community, American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS) and related accreditations, and for Oncology Registry data distribution and publication.

Responsible for record reviews and corrections to registry data; verify quality requirements; provide documentation and/or present to Committees for ACoS and related accreditations.

Prepare and submit annual budget; manage program budget and expenditures; determine and report on monthly unit of service.

Prepare and present information for presentations, conferences, and workshops.

Maintain rapid quality reporting system (RQRS) and the workflows and communications to ensure effective management.

Perform abstracting as needed to maintain timely reporting.

Maintain Policy and Procedure Manual.

Analyze Registry data, assuring quality compliance for State Health Registry of Iowa (SHRI).

Analyze, evaluate, and compile data and create specialized reports as requested by physicians, administrative staff, and others.

Review Pathology reports utilizing the CAS in CNExT; identify and validate cancer specific cases; create (or verify) suspense abstracts.

Analyze, interpret, and determine appropriate information to be obtained for updating of Oncology Registry abstract.

Maintain specialized knowledge to execute abstracting and confirming documentation utilizing specific resources and determine appropriate coding to document Collaborative Stage (CS) and surgical resections meeting Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS) guidelines as mandated by the ACoS/CoC and NCI/SEER.

Responsible for the coordination, assessment and correction of edits and transmission of data to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) Call for Data database.

Function as specialized/technical expert on the infrastructure and functions of CNExT database. Serve as CNExT contact for maintenance and technical issues as well as liaison to Health Care Information Systems (HCIS).

Responsible for developing custom databases for abstractors and follow‑up personnel and to assure compliance with new ACoS standards as needed.

Coordinate, monitor and maintain all aspects of database, assuring accurate and up‑to‑date compilation of data.

Manage transmission of weekly cases to SHRI via secure file transfer protocol (FTP).

Manage and maintain regular updates to metafiles and data system to maintain current standards.

Execute coordination and enhancements to Cancer Alert System (CAS) into CNExT.

Strategic Planning

Initiate the development of long‑ and short‑term program objectives and strategies. Coordination and preparation of strategic plans in support of program.

Analyze workload and volume trends along with national and local forecasts to arrange staffing models and determine personnel, technology, and infrastructure needs for the work unit proactively.
