THE POSITION

The Legal Assistant 1 at the Department of Human Services, Bureau of Hearings and Appeals, ensures appeal files are complete, accurate, and processed correctly. DESCRIPTION OF WORK- Appeal Review:
Analyze appeals for procedural compliance and make recommendations based on regulations - Timeline Tracking:
Compute and adjust due dates while monitoring deadlines to ensure timely case processing - Scheduling Support:
Coordinate hearings, notify involved parties, and produce scheduling letters through case management systems - Document Preparation:
Arrange subpoenas, orders, and other legal documents for judge review and signature - Record Maintenance:
Organize electronic and physical records to ensure accuracy and proper labeling - Case Processing:
Handle legal correspondence, update databases, and file materials in the correct appeal records
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework:
You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, depending on individual eligibility, the Bureau’s operational needs, and successful completion of both the probationary period and the training period. Work assignments will primarily occur in the office. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview. - Salary:

- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
