The Purchasing Agent will assist Purchasing in procuring goods and services as well as confer with, advise and assist operational, technical and professional staff on the procurement process and the development of specifications for goods and services. Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Reviewing purchase documents for accuracy, adequacy and consulting with the appropriate agency staff to resolve problems and discrepancies.
- Entering and retrieving data in FMS, PASSPort and DCAS On-Line Direct Order System and the Department’s purchasing system.
- Preparing and modifying specifications and conditions of purchase.
- Conducting market research to determine possible sources of supply and market prices.
- Preparing and conducting small purchase solicitations.
- Tabulating and analyzing bids, examining samples and investigating bidders and prospective contractors.
- Following up on problems regarding delivery of goods and services and preparing periodic progress reports on procurement status.
- Serving as primary liaison between the agency and contractors, vendors and business representatives.
- Research and complete MOCS and other turnaround documents.
- Maintain files (paper and electronic).
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.

- To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, either one year served at Assignment Level I or one additional year of the experience described in "1" above.
- To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, either one year served at Assignment Level II or two additional years of the experience described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been supervisory, or spent performing professional procurement duties equivalent to those performed at Assignment Level III.
- Experience in City Small Purchase process (including familiarity with PPB rules)
- PC literacy and skills in various software: MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent communication, writing and organization skills.
- Knowledge of FMS and PASSPort system.
