The Vice President, Global Business Development & Client Management is an executive leadership role responsible for driving global commercial growth through new client acquisition, current client expansion, and development of enterprise-level partnerships across the company's full service portfolio.
This role owns global business development strategy and execution, including pipeline generation, bookings, and revenue growth, while serving as an executive sponsor for select strategic clients. The Vice President leads a global business development organization and partners closely with leadership to ensure commercially sound, scalable, and executable client solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Global Business Development Strategy & Growth
- Develop and execute global business development strategy aligned with short- and long-term commercial objectives.
- Drive new logo acquisition and expansion revenue across pharmaceutical, biotech, and emerging sponsor segments.
- Own global pipeline generation, forecasting, and bookings performance across regions and service lines.
- Lead complex, multi-service, multi-year pursuits from early engagement through contract execution.
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with senior sponsor stakeholders.
- Serve as executive sponsor for select strategic or enterprise clients, partnering with Portfolio Directors post-award to ensure continuity and long-term growth.
- Represent the organization at key industry conferences, strategic forums, and executive client engagements.
- Partner with Marketing and Commercial Strategy teams to articulate and position a differentiated value proposition.
- Serve as key commercial team member supporting proposal strategy, RFP response governance, bid defenses, pricing strategy, and contract negotiations.
- Ensure commercial solutions are aligned with operational feasibility, financial targets, and long-term client value.
- Critically evaluate win/loss performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive cross-sell and expansion opportunities within existing client relationships in partnership with Portfolio Leadership.
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing global business development organization.
- Establish clear performance metrics, territory strategies, and development plans for business development leaders and teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and disciplined commercial execution.
- Partner closely with Finance, Operations, and Portfolio Leadership to ensure integrated commercial governance.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or physical/life sciences
- Proven track record of selling full-service CRO services
- 10+ years of successful sales experience - account profiling, relationship development
- 10+ years of experience establishing sales metrics and leading a team
- MBA is preferred
