Job Description & How to Apply Below

Wakuli. Impacting the world with exciting coffee.

While consumers are paying too much for low quality coffee, farmers are earning far less than what's needed to sustain their livelihood. They work in an environment that is making it harder and harder to keep meeting our needs for coffee. That's why we are all about selling the best coffee – not just in taste, but also in fair pay for farmers and with more love and attention for the planet.

Our beans are traceable to the farm and we send them directly through your mailbox to guarantee freshness. We are a no-nonsense, ambitious start-up with a profound mission: impacting the world with super exciting coffees.

Changes are taking place in the coffee industry. More and more companies are required to comply with EU regulation regarding responsible business (CSDDD) and to an anti-deforestation law (EUDR) that will go into effect in June 2025. At Wakuli we work closely with our producing partners as a default, and while we strongly agree with the intention behind these regulations, we see that their execution can very quickly marginalize smallholder farmers even further in our industry.

At Wakuli we are not about just complying to the bare minimum. We take a far more active approach to changing the industry. For instance by finding partners who have a mutual interest in upgrading to specialty coffee and working closely with them to make their production climate-smart and future-proof. Our program to support all our partners in practicing regenerative agriculture (reg ag) is in full development.

A big part of this internship will be about this roll-out.

Your role (full time 40h):

For the Sourcing and Impact team we are looking for a full time intern for six months.

You will lead our approach to and the practical consequences of EUDR, CSDDD and anti-green washing regulation. This will include:

- Researching implications of EUDR regulation and link to our reg ag program.

- Researching CSDDD (upcoming due diligence regulation) implications for Wakuli. Desk research, attending seminars and webinars.

- Supporting partners who are working on EUDR compliance and be the liaison between producers and experts.

You will be involved in the practical roll-out of our regenerative coffee program with producing partners. This involves:

- Expansion and fine tuning of our regenerative coffee program (internal and external communication and identifying project opportunities).

- You will be working independently, diving into sources and best practices to define our perfect reg ag course for the near future.

You will need to be a flexible and an active member of a dynamic team because there will always be unexpected activities that need attention and support.

About you.

  • You are fluent in English

  • You understand/have experience with international agricultural value chains

  • You have a strong affinity with sustainable agriculture in general and some understanding of regenerative agriculture specifically

  • You are familiar with/have experience with international regulations

  • You don't mind doing some serious desk research and crunching large documents.

  • You are comfortable to communicate directly with people from outside the organization

  • You are able to work alone but also to team up for extended periods to get things done

  • You have Masters-level thinking skills

  • You are available for 6 months, starting asap

What we offer.

  • The opportunity to make a difference in the world;

  • An internship fee of 500 euro per month based on full time;

  • Working from home flexibility (at least 50/50) and an inspiring workplace above the roastery

  • A lot of responsibilities and a steep learning curve

  • A chance to learn more about the coffee business

  • Talented international and impact driven colleagues with a great team spirit

Do you love coffee, and would you like to make a real impact? Drop us a message (also fine to do it in Dutch) and let’s have a (digital) cup of coffee!
