Pay or shift range: $55,000 USD to $75,000 USD
. The salary range is based on a variety of factors, including experience, education, certifications and geographic location.
As an AS400 Buyer for Bunzl Distribution, you will be responsible for strategically restocking our Southwest regional warehouses. You will execute a queue of purchasing activity that may be oriented by category, market, region, vendor or customer. In this critical position, you will align, modify, and perform the procurement process from demand through final disposition and often serve as the primary representative of Bunzl to suppliers.
You will have the opportunity to work with both Domestic and Import vendors and will leverage our AS400 & Blue Yonder systems for inventory tracking.
This is a Mon‑Fri day shift role; sitting onsite in our Phoenix, AZ (Tempe) office. There may be some flexibility to work from home 1‑2 days per month if needed.
Responsibilities- Communicate with global manufacturers and suppliers regarding orders, inventory and delivery timelines.
- Support supply through product selection, development, and sourcing.
- Monitor pricing, terms and KPIs with manufacturers and suppliers.
- Monitor inventory levels and control among multiple warehouses to ensure maximum efficiency of warehouse space.
- Be a strong team member with peers and other key internal stakeholders, including purchasing, operations, warehouse, finance and sales.
- Deliver the on the KPI/metrics and objectives, ensuring that all actions are in sync with the plan defined by local leadership. Metrics may include, but are not limited to:
- Buyer productivity – volume, value, turns, and overstock.
- Adherence to category management guidelines or demand plans that ensure preferred vendor relationships and products are core to every buying decision.
- Inventory balance granular to ordering characteristics and aged profile.
- Maintain vendor relationships including service level and On Time and In Full (OTIF).
- Identification and capture of opportunities for one-time PBIT improvements.
- Negotiate with all levels of supplier contacts including key challenges in price, availability, lead time, and freight.
- Open to learning, coachable, and willing to volunteer to test new approaches.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 2+ years of purchasing experience or education.
- International/Import buying experience preferred.
- Analytical skills with the ability to use Microsoft Excel to drive decisions and communicate key performance trends.
- Understand the basics of negotiations and can pursue a predefined result.
- Ability to respond to multiple needs and priorities through open, professional communication.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and/or basic ordering principles.
- Knowledge of AS400 or Blue Yonder preferred.
- Experience in one of the following: demand planning, purchasing, freight, or warehousing.
- Experience with e‑mail such as Outlook and other Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, CoPilot).
