Position: Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I - Campus at Lookout Mountain

About the Division of Youth Services

The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, assessment, commitment, and parole. DYS operates ten secure facilities serving youth between the ages of 10 and 21, inclusive of pre‑adjudicated and sentenced youth. Additionally, DYS manages programs such as Senate Bill 91‑94 and provides juvenile parole services throughout the State.

Job Assignment

This position manages the food services program in a juvenile correctional facility and oversees the youth food service work program. The incumbent supervises staff and youth, ensures quality meals for residents and staff, and maintains compliance with regulations, policies, and standards.

Job Duties
  • Supervise Youth
    :
    Assign and evaluate work, handle grievances, initiate disciplinary actions, and manage crises. Provide direct care, safety, and security, enforce rules, orient youth, monitor movement, conduct searches, and prevent sexual contact in accordance with PREA policies.
  • Meal Preparation and Service
    :
    Prepare food to correct temperature and presentation standards, follow National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program guidelines, record data, delegate tasks to youth, serve food, and ensure portion accuracy.
  • Safety and Security
    :
    Anticipate safety hazards, enforce safety policies, inventory equipment, enforce key policy, report equipment failures, store chemicals properly, and train youth on fire prevention and evacuation.
  • Sanitation
    :
    Follow sanitation procedures, document compliance, keep kitchen equipment and physical plant clean, and maintain food temperature controls.
  • Inventory Control
    :
    Conduct monthly physical counts, requisition supplies, inspect and reject products, store using FIFO, date items, and submit requisitions to the facility food service manager.
  • Training and Meetings
    :
    Attend required training, maintain certifications, complete DYS Pre‑Service, Facility Training, and Orientation, and support behavior management strategies.
  • Educate Youth
    :
    Facilitate culinary curriculum, instruct on food service tasks, administer exams, maintain competency records, and support youth certification processes.
  • Other Duties
    :
    Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Education / Licensure / Certification / Experience
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Additional appropriate education will substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of documented supervisory staff oversight, including performance reviews, training, and development responsibilities.
Conditions of Employment
  • Full background check and required certification verifications.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • State of Colorado residency at the time of application and throughout employment.
  • Valid, non‑restricted Colorado or U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Shift work may involve breakfast, lunch, or dinner shifts.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials used in the kitchen.
  • Travel to training or alternate work sites as necessary.
