Director Grid and Market Solutions - Markets

Role Summary

Provides strategic leadership and oversight within ERCOT’s Grid and Market Solutions (GMS) organization, leading initiatives that manage the evolving complexities of the electric power industry, advance long‑term staff capabilities, and enhance market systems and technology solutions.

• Lead and motivate the GMS technology development and engineering teams delivering high‑quality software solutions to ERCOT business users.
• Define technical requirements and roadmaps for new and existing market systems, ensuring consistent methodology and standards.
• Oversee the full systems development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with ERCOT policies, security standards, and NERC CIP requirements.
• Manage 24×7 operational availability and reliability of critical market systems.
• Lead requirements reviews and provide strategic direction on design and architectural changes for market redesign initiatives.
• Guide cross‑functional teams in impact analysis, collaborating with business stakeholders, GMS, and IT teams.
• Drive adoption of advanced optimization, AI/ML technologies, and emerging solutions to enhance market system performance.
• Lead hiring, coaching, training, and performance management of staff; conduct budgeting and financial decision‑making.
• Oversee vendor management, including contract negotiation and alignment of vendor roadmaps with ERCOT.
• Represent GMS in ERCOT stakeholder forums (TWG, PRS, WMS, CMWG) to advance organizational priorities.
• Ensure weekly promotion of CIM Model to EMMS Market systems and enforce 24×7 business processes.
• Provide strategic oversight of product backlog grooming, release planning, and policy development.

• Minimum 10 years of job‑related work experience, including at least 5 years in a management or leadership role.
• Experience with energy or market management systems and applications from vendors such as Hitachi/ABB, GE, Siemens, or Resource Innovations/Nexant (preferred).
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams, manage 24×7 critical systems, and perform vendor management.
• Strong communication, program and project management skills, and the ability to develop talent into principal roles.

• Background in market management systems software development.
• Experience with AI/ML technologies integration into market and grid systems.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (required).
• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
• PhD preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Employees must work on‑site in Taylor, TX at least 2 days per week. Remote work from a Texas residence is permissible.

Expected salary range: $244,000 - $336,000.
