CAREER NAVIGATOR (PART-TIME)
Summer Search is a national, non‑profit organization based in Bloomington, MN dedicated to empowering underserved, BIPOC, and first‑generation students to reach their full potential through mentorship, apprenticeships, and community support.
THE OPPORTUNITYThe Part‑Time Career Navigator works with Summer Search Business Development and Aon to provide individual coaching and mentorship for apprentices and guidance to their managers. You will support apprentices in developing workplace readiness, managing personal barriers, and achieving the goals of the two‑year apprenticeship program.
What You’ll Do- Apprentice Support & Coaching (40%)
- Conduct initial intake assessments with apprentices and managers
- Meet weekly or biweekly to support workplace readiness and professional growth
- Provide coaching and referrals for personal barriers such as childcare, transportation, and housing
- Maintain communication to track academics, work‑based learning, and well‑being
- Track engagement, attendance, and case notes
- Collaborate on success plans or intervention plans when needed - Manager Engagement (20%)
- Connect with apprentice managers monthly via email, Teams, or in‑person
- Encourage balanced feedback and use Summer Search/Aon frameworks
- Remind managers to complete status reports and competency check‑ins - Program Monitoring & Communication (15%)
- Partner with the Aon Program Team to support apprentices in meeting graduation requirements
- Proactively document and report high‑risk situations - Professional Development Program (20%)
- Plan and facilitate monthly in‑person professional development sessions in collaboration with the Summer Search team
- Coordinate event logistics, scheduling, and invitations
- Track participation for progress documentation - Other Duties (5%)
- Provide support for recruiting and engagement activities such as career fairs, graduations, and local program needs
- Experience – At least 3 years in workforce development or career advising, preferably with early‑career individuals
- Accountability – Owns processes, decisions, and results, and responds to stakeholder needs
- Teamwork & Collaboration – Inspires commitment, fosters connection, and manages conflicts constructively
- Project Management – Strong organization, juggling multiple workflows, and experience managing partners or vendors
- Critical Consciousness – Recognizes sociopolitical barriers and actively opposes oppression in interactions
- Technology Skills – Basic proficiency with Microsoft Suite
Part‑time, 15 hours per week (3 days a week, 5 hours per day). In‑person at the Bloomington, MN office; occasional remote work may be considered.
Compensation and BenefitsCompetitive, transparent pay: $40 per hour. Non‑exempt with a starting salary of $40/hour. After one year, a $2,500 retention bonus; after two years, an additional $2,500 bonus.
