Job Description

The Senior Consultant, Data Solutions within Continuous Improvement & Data Analytics (CIDA) is a key member of Boston University’s internal consulting team, supporting leadership and stakeholders across the university to design and implement data‑driven solutions that optimize operations and advance strategic decision‑making. Reporting to the Associate Director, Consulting Services, this position leads complex projects in areas such as data visualization, automation, system integration, advisory services, facilitation, and project management.

The role operates in a hybrid environment, with remote work for independent tasks and in‑person attendance for stakeholder meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex, cross‑functional consulting engagements focused on data solutions, including defining project scope, identifying resource requirements, and managing project execution.
  • Design, build, and implement scalable data visualization dashboards, automation solutions, and business intelligence tools that directly impact strategic initiatives.
  • Analyze complex datasets and business processes to develop actionable insights, optimize workflows, and recommend system improvements.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings with stakeholders to gather business requirements, validate findings, and deliver tailored data solutions.
  • Develop comprehensive presentations and data storytelling artifacts to communicate technical findings to a wide range of audiences, from operational staff to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with the CIDA team on projects where process improvement complements data solutions, ensuring holistic recommendations and implementations.
  • Maintain a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for enhanced service delivery through advanced analytics and automation practices.
  • Represent Financial Affairs and CIDA on committees, task forces, and university‑wide initiatives, providing expertise in data solutions and technology adoption.
  • Advance the responsible and strategic use of AI across the university by identifying high‑value use cases, advising leaders on opportunities and risks, and integrating AI‑enabled approaches into CIDA projects and engagements.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5–8 years of relevant experience in client service, consulting, data analytics, process improvement, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing data solutions with measurable business impact.
  • Expertise in Microsoft tools, particularly Power BI, SharePoint, Power Automate, and MS SQL; familiarity with project management platforms such as Asana is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously with minimal oversight.
  • Analytical rigor with the ability to frame hypotheses, assess options, and draw clear, actionable insights from data.
  • Effective communication skills to convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences and facilitate stakeholder buy‑in.
  • Self‑motivation and ability to thrive in an environment of ambiguity, balancing independent execution with collaborative engagement.
  • Sound judgment, adaptability, and a solutions‑oriented mindset to navigate a fast‑paced, evolving consulting environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience working within higher education or other mission‑driven, complex organizational environments.
  • Background in developing automated workflows, data integrations, or strategic reporting initiatives.
