Full job description SUMMARYAre you looking for an opportunity to have a real impact in your job as a Safety Specialist? Consider joining the Safety Services team at The Builders Group where teamwork and personal growth are celebrated.
The Builders Group is a self‑insured workers’ compensation fund for construction related companies in MN and we’re currently looking for a dynamic Safety Specialist to join our Safety Services team. You would be responsible for delivering a wide variety of safety services to TBG’s book of business, focusing on risk assessments, trainings, hazard identification, safety program development, and worksite safety consultations.
You would be part of a top‑notch team of Safety Services professionals who are excited to provide industry leading services while actively partnering with our Underwriting and Claims Departments to assess TBG Members (insured companies). The ideal candidate will be a team player, organized, able to effectively manage their time, and be detail oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Conduct risk management surveys for TBG prospects and members to identify possible exposures, state of current safety efforts, opportunities for improvement, and degree of insurability.
- Develop relationships with TBG members to assist with long‑term safety solutions to existing and future challenges.
- Conduct worksite safety inspections.
- Evaluate, customize, and develop written safety programs for TBG members.
- Provide safety solutions to TBG members based on their specific safety and health needs.
- Participate and engage in weekly TBG Safety Services team meetings.
- Work closely with TBG Underwriting and Claims Departments to monitor member performance and analyze injury trends.
- Relevant degree or equivalent job experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal (verbal and written) skills and capabilities.
- Have experience with OSHA Standards (Construction and General Industry).
- Experience consulting/training on safety and/or WC related topics such as, but not limited to: fall protection, excavation, scaffolding, RTK, AWAIR, LOTO, JSA, accident investigation, etc.
- Ability to work both on a team and independently, with minimal direction.
- Self‑starter with ability to manage time and your schedule effectively.
- Have experience in the Construction Industry, General Industry, Mining, and/or in Workers’ Comp insurance.
- Professional certification in safety field (CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, OTI, etc.).
- Motivated to continually learn and grow.
- Problem solving and analysis abilities.
- Demonstrated program management skills.
- Training and public speaking experience.
- Strong service emphasis.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus.
- Experience driving 3/4 ton truck/trailer and ability to obtain DOT health card is a plus.
Primary focus is in the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area, with secondary focus in greater Minnesota. Some overnights are expected based on scheduling. Regular meetings at Member locations are required.

- After completing training, you will have the option to work from your home office, with a significant part of your day spent meeting Members at their locations and or work week consists of 37.5 hours, and we close on Fridays at 2pm.
