The Senior Data Scientist develops an understanding of complex number systems, proves theorems, and applies mathematical, statistical and epidemiologic principles to identify trends, variable associations, and cause-effect relationships in data sets across Utilization Management and Care Management. You will contribute to causal evaluation efforts by applying a practical approach and developing analyses that balance risk, rigor, and feasibility to support informed decision‑making across the enterprise.
Responsibilities- Partner with Utilization Management and Care Management teams to streamline workflows and improve quality metrics, patient outcomes, and provider experience.
- Translate complex analyses into actionable insights for non‑technical audiences to inform decision‑making.
- Design and execute analyses that balance statistical rigor and business feasibility to support enterprise initiatives.
- Apply statistical and epidemiologic methods to identify trends, associations, and causal drivers within healthcare datasets.
- Prepare clear documentation of methodologies, findings, and interpretations to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
- Produce technical reports, summaries, and quantitative analyses to support clinical and operational strategies.
- Contribute to peer‑reviewed publications and present findings at conferences and industry forums.
- Master’s degree in statistics, epidemiology, mathematics, or related field.
- At least 2 or more years of experience leveraging generative AI tools, methods, and evaluation approaches, including identifying high‑value business use cases, assessing technical feasibility and limitations, and applying responsible use principles.
- 5 or more years of technical experience in statistical analysis, modeling, data science.
- Experience translating ambiguous problems to testable questions.
- Expertise in designing and executing experimental and quasi‑experimental analysis with clear understanding of assumptions and tradeoffs.
- Demonstrated experience communicating findings, and the analysis and assumptions used to arrive at them, to cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Ph.D. in statistics, epidemiology, mathematics, or related field.
- Fluency in Python, R or similar software.
- Demonstrated experience leading or making meaningful contributions to quasi‑experimental analyses of real‑world data to influence decisions.
- Two years of work experience in consulting, applied research, healthcare, insurance, or related industry outside of academia.
- Demonstrated experience supporting measurement at different stages of project scale, e.g. feasibility pilots, outcomes studies, and full scaling.
- Must have the ability to provide a high‑speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
- A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25 Mbps download x 10 Mbps upload is required.
- Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.
- A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
