Position Summary

This person will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC) office as well as providing assistance to ensure all open grants programs of the NBDC and CBA are being properly executed and reported. The Business Manager/Grant Financial Officer will oversee compliance for government (federal and state) grants and cooperative agreements for the NBDC and provide support and consultation to departments in the College of Business Administration for government grants and cooperative agreements as needed.

Key Responsibilities Financial & Grant Management
  • Manage and track awards and expenses of all open grant programs with an understanding of the budgetary limits for each grant.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state, federal, and grant accounting requirements.
  • Assist with and ensure all grant effort reporting is completed by Program Directors on time and accurately.
  • Understanding and work within set budgetary limits at both department and grant levels.
  • Provide assistance to internal or external auditors as needed.
  • Monitor sub-award grantees and verify quarterly financial reports and invoices.
  • Perform financial audits of sub-awardees for the Small Business Development Center grant.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly summary spreadsheets of grant expenditures with burn rates and commitments.
  • Monitor NBDC budget to actual expenditures, producing regular and special reports, performing budget analyses, and calculating budget adjustments caused by revised projections or re-budgets.
  • Assist with daily accounting operations including proper payment of invoices from specific cost objects.
  • Confere regularly with program directors of NBDC, CBA Dean, CBA Associate/Assistant Dean, and various project investigators on budget and grant management.
  • Act as a liaison between principal investigators (PI) and UNO’s grants accounting and sponsored programs.
  • Prepare summary comparison budgets for final grant reporting purposes and grant close-outs.
  • Provide training for CBA professors and staff on grant budgeting, writing budget narratives, allowable expenses, expense tracking, and grant submission as needed.
  • Support CBA professors and staff during and post grant award performance period.
Supervision
  • Responsible for supervising the operations of NBDC, including vendor relations and employees.
  • Supervise and manage one or more administrative staff.
  • Monitor admin staff duties such as travel reports, invoice payments, graduate assistant agreements, personnel action forms, and employee record‑keeping.
  • Manage vendor relations for office leases, telephone services, advertising, copiers, and other office needs.
Business Manager/Human Resources for NBDC
  • Monitor and help implement personnel policies at NBDC.
