Location & Work ArrangementThis position may be based in Lowell, MA;
Boston, MA; or Chicago, IL. The role supports a hybrid work environment, with employees expected to be in the office at least two days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays.
Interconnection Project Manager (Utility‑Scale)—you will play an integral role in the performance of our utility‑scale interconnection portfolio across multiple ISOs, including CAISO, NYISO, ISO‑NE, PJM, TVA, MISO, and SPP. The role requires strong organizational and project management skills, the ability to coordinate interconnection‑related efforts between engineering, finance, accounting, and operations, and a technical skill set to interpret utility feedback and its implications on development, engineering, and construction.
PositionResponsibilities
- Lead critical‑path planning and tactical management for application window submissions across the portfolio.
- Develop a strong understanding of New Leaf Energy’s utility‑scale value‑stream map and development strategy.
- Lead new‑market entry interconnection due diligence and research, including process implementation and entrepreneurial problem‑solving.
- Create and maintain ISO/region‑specific project management infrastructure.
- Read and understand project documents such as line diagrams, layouts, datasheets, and site control documents.
- Track and report on key performance metrics in each ISO/region.
- Serve as the ISO interconnection process subject‑matter expert for utilities and regulations, and consult on strategic planning.
- Manage the ISO/transmission interconnection process in accordance with FERC regulations and ISO‑specific procedures.
- Daily portfolio management of all active interconnection applications across multiple ISOs and service territories.
- Monitor ISO performance to identify risks to any project’s critical path and autonomously elevate issues.
- Coordinate interconnection activities: direct ISO RFIs to appropriate internal parties and manage internal responses to performance and lead‑time targets.
- Understand internal and external project milestones and their implications for the overall schedule.
- Assist in onboarding and managing third‑party consultants.
- Maintain long‑term relationships with ISO contacts.
- Handle project‑level disputes and negotiate positive outcomes with utilities.
- Collaborate with the policy team to provide insight into interconnection processes and participate in ISO‑level policy discussions.
- Engage in ISO‑ and FERC‑level policy working groups when required.
- Report interconnection issues back to team leads.
- Provide guidance for market participation strategy.
- 4+ years of relevant experience, preferably with energy or direct electric utility experience.
- Bachelor’s degree required (Engineering, Policy, Finance, Business, Environmental Science, or Project Management).
- Strong project management, reporting, and technical skills, preferably in Salesforce and Smartsheet or Microsoft Project; PMP certification preferred.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to build, experiment, and iterate in a fast‑paced environment.
Base salary for the Lowell location ranges from $113,704 to $132,142, with an on‑target annual bonus of 20% of base salary. Compensation is market‑competitive and includes equity‑like benefits.
