The Opportunity

Our highly established and well respected client are seeking a Senior Technical Manager to provide expert technical leadership across its residential surveying operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an AssocRICS or MRICS qualified surveyor with strong building surveying and defect diagnosis experience who is looking to step into a more strategic, advisory role away from day-to-day site work whilst still using their technical expertise to influence quality, risk management, and best practice across a national surveying team.

The role is predominantly home-based, offering flexibility and autonomy, with periodic visits to the head office for collaboration, training, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical authority and point of escalation for residential surveyors, providing guidance on valuation, surveying methodology, and report content
  • Provide expert input on building pathology, construction methods, and defect analysis, supporting surveyors in complex or high-risk cases
  • Review and audit Level 2, Level 3, and bespoke survey reports to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with professional and regulatory standards
  • Support the resolution of technical queries, post-inspection challenges, and complaints, working to resolve issues informally and minimise escalation
  • Promote best practice and continuous improvement across surveying standards, templates, and processes
  • Support training, coaching, and development of surveyors, sharing technical knowledge and raising overall capability across the team
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of RICS guidance, lender requirements, and industry standards, ensuring these are embedded across the business
  • Contribute to risk management and quality assurance initiatives, helping to protect the firm’s professional reputation
About You
  • Strong background in residential surveying, with demonstrable experience identifying and reporting on building defects
  • Confident interpreting and applying RICS standards, best practice guidance, and compliance requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical technical advice
  • Detail-focused, organised, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment
  • Collaborative in approach, with the credibility to influence and support surveyors at varying levels of experience
Why Apply?
  • Home-based role with flexibility and no defined geographic patch - say goodbye to spending countless hours on the road and picking up keys!
  • Opportunity to move into a more senior technical / leadership position without returning to full-time site work
  • Influence surveying quality and standards across a well-established organisation
  • Work alongside experienced professionals in a supportive, quality-driven environment
  • Long-term career opportunity with scope to shape technical best practice
