Overview
Sr. Accessibility Product Manager – leading a global accessibility program across Elsevier’s Clinical Solutions portfolio. The role drives compliance with evolving standards, embeds accessibility into product development, and enhances product quality, compliance, and customer trust.
Responsibilities- Own the Accessibility Program: assess current compliance posture, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain and update conformance documentation (VPATs/ACRs) for all active products.
- Partner with Legal on ADA TitleIII obligations, contractual commitments, and customer inquiries to pre‑empt risks.
- Monitor legal and regulatory trends, including enforcement, emerging state statutes, and international equivalents.
- Build and sustain a portfolio‑level remediation roadmap across physician, nursing, specialty, and patient engagement categories.
- Work with product managers, engineers, and designers to embed accessibility into discovery, design, and delivery – not as an afterthought.
- Coordinate a network of accessibility champions embedded in product teams, setting direction, maintaining standards, and ensuring coherent execution.
- Own triage for incoming accessibility issues—customers, audits, legal—and drive them to resolution.
- Extend coverage to content accessibility across clinical content, educational materials, and PDFs, ensuring alt text, captions, reading order, and PDF accessibility are built in.
- Define metrics that demonstrate program effectiveness and report to leadership consistently.
- Create and enforce standards and guidance that raise baseline accessibility capability across product and engineering teams.
- Serve as the authoritative voice on accessibility for Clinical Solutions, representing the program at leadership, customer, and enterprise levels.
- 6+ years of product‑management experience, with at least 2 years owning a digital accessibility or compliance program at a product‑led company.
- Deep working knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section
508, and ADA TitleIII as applied to web and mobile software products. - Experience producing and defending VPATs/Accessibility Conformance Reports in an enterprise B2B context.
- Proven ability to inherit an existing program, assess its maturity, and drive measurable improvement without starting over.
- Experience coordinating distributed ownership models and influencing cross‑team collaboration without direct authority.
- Technical fluency sufficient for credible conversations with front‑end engineers on ARIA patterns, semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, and screen‑reader behavior.
- Experience navigating Legal stakeholders and accessibility‑related procurement and contractual requirements.
- Strong preference for background in health tech, SaaS, or enterprise software with a large, heterogeneous product portfolio.
- Experience with content accessibility (alt text, closed captioning, PDF remediation, authoring‑tool compliance).
- Hands‑on experience with assistive‑technology testing (NVDA, JAWS, Voice Over, Zoom Text).
- Familiarity with automated testing tooling (axe, Lighthouse, Pa11y) and CI/CD integration.
- Exposure to European Accessibility Act / EN301549 for international product lines.
- CPACC, WAS, or equivalent IAAP certification preferred.
U.S. National Base Pay Range: $115,400 – $192,300 (geographic differentials may apply). Base pay ranges for Maryland, New Jersey, and Ohio are noted separately. The position is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
