Position: SENIOR CONSULTANT, Continuous Improvement & Data Analytics

Position Overview

The Senior Consultant within Continuous Improvement & Data Analytics (CIDA) is a member of the internal consulting team that supports Boston University leadership and other key stakeholders across the University to implement strategies, frameworks, systems, and initiatives that optimize processes and increase data‑driven decision making. This position reports to the Manager, Consulting Services and is responsible for leading and executing projects in CIDA’s service areas: process design and improvement, advisory, transformation/change management, strategic planning, facilitation/workshops, and project management.

The role offers a hybrid work environment, balancing remote work for independent responsibilities with in‑person meetings for department and stakeholder collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Lead complex, cross‑functional consulting projects, determining and defining project scope and objectives, identifying resource needs, supervising project team members, preparing project budgets, and developing and managing detailed project schedules.
  • Incorporate best practices, tools, templates, and standards throughout project execution.
  • Build and maintain relationships with process owners across the University to provide consulting support and identify project opportunities.
  • Synthesize large volumes of information into concise, actionable insights for decision‑making.
  • Develop comprehensive presentations that succinctly summarize insights and recommendations, scalable for different audiences.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of standardized tools, templates, and methodologies to support CIDA work and ensure quality deliverables.
  • Drive innovation through collaborative problem solving, staff development, and actively seeking opportunities for efficiencies and improvements.
  • Collaborate with Data Solution Consultants and Developers on projects where data analysis or data solutions complement consulting work.
  • Represent Financial Affairs and CIDA on committees, projects, and other work as needed.
  • Advance the responsible and strategic use of artificial intelligence (AI) across the University by identifying high‑value use cases, advising leaders on opportunities and risks, and integrating AI‑enabled approaches into CIDA’s projects and engagements.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of relevant experience in client service, management consulting, financial analysis, or process improvement.
  • Proven track record in leading successful projects to drive organizational change.
  • Strong organizational skills and familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to frame hypotheses, design analytical approaches, and draw meaningful insights from data.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and develop project plans without established guidance.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) to articulate rationale behind recommendations and gain stakeholder buy‑in; comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Exceptional judgment and intuition to navigate ambiguity and uncertainty in decision‑making contexts, combined with a commonsense approach.
  • Aptitude for considering diverse perspectives and stakeholder interests when making decisions.
  • Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial, cross‑functional team environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Experience in higher education and associated administrative (e.g., finance, IT, budgeting, operations) or academic functions.
Pay Range

Salary Grade 50, commensurate with level and experience. Anticipated range: $85,000 – $105,000.

Hybrid Work Arrangement

Eligible for a hybrid work arrangement (remote work up to four days per week) after completion of a successful observation period.
