Position Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the top law firms in the U.S.! Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is looking for a Business Development Manager (Business & Tax) to join our team in Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C., or New York offices.
Hybrid work engagement: three days of remote work, two days in-office.
The Business Development Manager will work closely with the CMBDO and the Business Development team to develop and implement business development initiatives. The role collaborates with practice group leaders on pitches, proposals, events, marketing strategies, and internal meetings, and interfaces with all levels of the firm.
Typical Day- Act as a subject matter advisor for your practice and/or industry, developing deep understanding of the firm’s practice areas, services, clients, and competitors, and serve as a firm-wide connector to help attorneys network.
- Build strong business relationships with attorneys throughout the firm.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop, execute, and track business development projects, identifying opportunities and making recommendations to expand client work and enhance cross‑selling opportunities.
- Provide support for new business pursuits—including client teams, pitches, RFP responses, and capability presentations.
- Develop programs to enhance services, such as custom proposals/RFPs, opportunity tracking, ROI on events, experience data collection, and implementing a sales‑focused CRM.
- Monitor market, industry, and competitive trends for firm practice groups, conducting research related to clients, prospects, industry segments, and competitors.
- Manage key practice group information, including experience, client profiles, market intelligence, and contact lists.
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop external marketing collateral and update content on the firm’s website.
- Work with Marketing and Communications leads to raise practice area profiles through legal directory submissions, award rankings, surveys, league tables, sponsor ships, marketing campaigns, and practice group events.
- Support other administrative functions at the practice levels with regular interface with business services support teams.
- 4+ years of business or client development experience within a law firm.
- 1+ years of leadership, supervisory or management experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing or related disciplines and/or a combination of relevant experience preferred.
- Ability to establish credibility with legal personnel at all levels of the firm.
- Demonstrates an efficient mix of confidence, tact, patience and persistence.
- Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to understand the firm’s mission, business priorities, practice activities and related market dynamics.
- Commitment to client service.
- High levels of organization, communication and writing skills.
- Flexibility and resourcefulness.
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Proactive drive and follow‑up on projects while thinking outside the box.
- Track record of identifying, developing and implementing best practices to expand cross‑selling opportunities that yield high realization successes.
- Strong multitasking and project‑management skills and understanding how to prioritize projects.
- Confidence and ability to work independently to enhance communications within and across practice groups, offices, and management.
- Ability to drive, maintain and execute traction with business development efforts.
- Collaboration with practice management, marketing teams, outside vendors, consultants, and other administrative staff.
- Some travel will be required.

The annualized salary ranges for this position are:
- Washington State: $134,000 to $156,000
- California (Los Angeles): $146,000 to $160,000; (San Francisco): $169,000 to $174,000
- New York City: $160,000 to $174,000
- Washington D.C.: $146,000 to $165,000
