Industry Contracts Officer (7380U), IPIRA-Industry Alliance Office 86544 Departmental Overview

The Industry Alliances Office (IAO) is responsible for creating, negotiating, and implementing agreements with industry to support campus research activities and foster strong relationships with the corporate sector. It negotiates all research and technology transfer agreements, including sponsored research, industry affiliate, SBIR/STTR grants, and data transfer agreements.

Position Summary

This position facilitates industry‑sponsored research on campus, including submission of proposals and negotiation of contract terms. It reviews, negotiates, and finalizes agreements for bringing resources to campus, supports industry consortiums, and ensures compliance with laws, regulations, UC policies, and campus practices.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and negotiate research‑related contracts such as NDA, material transfer, and sponsored research agreements, ensuring compliance with laws and policies.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with industry representatives and provide information about campus research programs, laws, and policies.
  • Facilitate post‑award management by advising faculty, students, and staff of their rights and obligations under the contracts.
  • In consultation with senior contract administrators and Associate Director, initiate new research collaborations by informing faculty and company representatives of potential opportunities.
  • Promote appropriate disclosure of invention disclosures to research sponsors and the Office of Technology Licensing.
  • Investigate and mediate departmental or contractor complaints, coordinating between multiple parties.
  • Partner with faculty, staff, and researchers to draft contract language that is favorable to the organization.
Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn internal departmental policies, state and federal regulations, and general contract terms.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to serve diverse constituencies.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Political acumen and strong listening skills.
  • Understanding of the organization’s infrastructure, goals, mission, rules, and policies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience and training.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or training.
Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $82,800.00 – $140,000, with an expected salary of $ – $.

  • This is a full‑time (40 hours/week) career position eligible for UC benefits.
  • This is an exempt, monthly‑paid position.
Other Information
  • This is not a visa opportunity and does not include sponsorship of a new consular H‑1B visa petition.
  • This position is eligible for up to 95% remote work; arrangements are determined in partnership with supervision.
